LETTER: Voices needed

Voices are needed now, more than in decades, so I speak, and hope others will, too.

If you agree, say so; if you disagree say so.

War. No, no, no. Think of a way to engage Iran, renew the broken nuclear agreement, and speak, even it the takes weeks and months.

I will oppose a war with Iran, and will not swallow the “national interest” declarations.

Beware! Presidents often start wars with elections in mind. “How can you change horses in the middle of the stream!”

Women’s Rights. Once more I declare my support of women’s choice, and the right to a lawful and safe abortion, plus unlimited reproductive rights. To add, a bare 3% of Planned Parenthood’s work involves abortions.

I support Planned Parenthood in the face of the attacks it receives, usually from a minority of white male lawmakers.

Migrants. The United States has the ability to absorb a million and even more migrants a year. Find an efficient way to treat them with dignity, and place them with relatives and even those unrelated who are willing to help.

Environment. A near-global lifestyle of waste must be halted, and replaced with a sustainable economy. I am willing to use and consume less, my small part in global change, as the earth warms. Laugh, but I often tell the counter worker, “No lid on my water and coffee. Help the planet!”

There, my voice has been recorded. Yours? Your actions?

Care?

Or, party on; consume more; focus on your immediate needs. “Don’t sweat it; there’s nothing you can do; relax; take care of your own garden.”

But aren’t we better than that, a lot better?
