Cameron County reports 8 COVID-19 deaths

Eight more Cameron County residents have died from COVID-19 related causes, the county health department reported Tuesday.

Six deaths were reported in Brownsville and one each in Harlingen and Primera, Cameron County Public Health said in a statement Tuesday night.

The individuals included one person in her 30s, one person in her 40s, one person in his 50s, four people in their 60s and one person in her 90s, the health department said.

This raises the total number of coronavirus-related deaths reported in Cameron County to 1,547, the health department said.

Also Tuesday, the health department said it has received confirmation on an additional 30 COVID-19 cases here, raising the total number of cases reported in Cameron County to 38,031.

The new cases include one child age 9 or younger, three people ages 10 to 19, five people in their 20s, five people in their 30s, six people in their 40s, four people in their 50s, four people in their 60s and two people in their 70s, the health department said.

New cases were reported in Brownsville, Harlingen, Indian Lake, Laguna Vista and San Benito, the health department said.

There have also been an additional 127 individuals who have recovered, raising the total number of recovered individuals to 34,094.

As part of the COVID-19 action response plan, Cameron County Public Health is conducting epidemiological investigations, contact tracing as needed and continues to monitor the situation, the health department said in the statement.
