This week, county officials reported another six residents died due to COVID-19 while also reporting nearly 500 people tested positive for COVID.
Hidalgo and Cameron counties reported a combined six people died to COVID while a total of 468 people tested positive, according to news releases issued by the counties.
Three Hidalgo County residents died due to COVID-19. Two of the deceased individuals were not vaccinated while one was not up to date on their vaccinations.
Those deceased included an Alton man in his 50s, an Edinburg woman in her 60s, and a Mission woman over 70 years old.
With their deaths, the county’s total number of COVID-related deaths rose to 4,035.
Hidalgo County reported 371 new cases this week including 99 confirmed cases and 272 probable cases.
The county also reported there were currently 22 people hospitalized with COVID, all adults. Nine of those patients were in intensive care units.
In Cameron County, three residents died due to COVID-related complications. Two of them were fully vaccinated.
The deceased residents included a Brownsville man in his 50s, a Harlingen woman in her 70s, and a La Feria man in his 50s.
There have now been a total of 2,313 COVID-related deaths in Cameron County.
Cameron County health officials also reported 97 new cases this week including 30 confirmed cases and 67 probable cases.
