Medicare doesn’t want to pay for people with Alzheimer’s

Medicare recently announced it will effectively refuse to cover Aduhelm, the first FDA-approved Alzheimer’s disease treatment in two decades.

Letters: Vote for democracy

The RNC used to stand for Republican National Committee; now it’s no longer that. Now it’s Republican National Cult.

Writings defended

Shirley Rickett’s letter of May 15 is an attempt to silence my opinion and cast doubt on what I write. All her efforts, prejudices and negatives against me are a badge of honor for me. I will not be silenced when I choose to stand up for America, and those who suffer collateral damage from these extreme leftist attempts to destroy our country, democracy, Constitution and our families.

Letters: Memorial at Alamo

Texas history has long forgotten Texas Col. Juan Seguin and his Tejanos performing the military funeral service for the burnt ashes of the defenders of the Alamo. After fighting for Texas independence in five different battles, including the Siege of the Alamo and San Jacinto, Seguin was promoted to lieutenant colonel and assumed his command of the Army of the West (San Antonio). To his horror and surprise, Juan came across three piles of burnt ashes; one large pile in front of the Alamo and two smaller piles at the Alameda (east entrance of San Antonio). It would be his sole responsibility to provide a proper funeral service for the fallen defenders of the Alamo.

Letters: Haunting memories

Every Memorial Day I especially remember my tours as a young Marine in Vietnam. On this day I enter a small room where books line the walls and diplomas, courtesy of government benefits, hang proudly.

President Biden: Show leadership, visit the border

On May 2, I wrote a letter to President Biden inviting him to visit our community, which borders Mexico and is one of the busiest U.S. Border Patrol sectors for illegal crossings in the country. Since then, many have asked about my intent with this invitation.

Letters: Razor wire use called inhumane

Gov. Greg Abbott’s border security plan calls for the installation of concertina wire along our Rio Grande. Concertina wire manufacturers promote it by stating it “has sharp blades which can slice deep into your flesh and cause fatal injuries sometimes.”

To address declining fortunes of the young, go upstream

For 33 years, my organization has been sounding the alarm about the declining fortunes of young adults. The words of the 1988 Forgotten Half report are eerie today: “One of the cruelest myths of contemporary American life is the claim that our economy is healthy because unemployment is relatively low.”

Letters: Promote Medicaid

Mothers are everything to our families. Nurse, teacher, chef, coach — we do it all. Whether we’re Black, White or Brown, mothers do what it takes to keep our families safe and cared for.

Letters: Supreme Court seen as partisan

Let me get this right. One leak from the Supreme Court of the United States of America, and immediately the court marshal is called in to investigate by Chief Justice Roberts.
