Letters: Vote for democracy

The RNC used to stand for Republican National Committee; now it’s no longer that. Now it’s Republican National Cult.

These people who are called Trumpers believe everything he says and everything Fox News says. That the election was stolen, that Trump is still the president, that Tom Hanks eats babies — Tom Hanks, really?

One day they will end up like the Branch Davidians with David Koresh or James Jones drinking the Kool-Aid. (“Drinking the Kool-Aid” is an expression used to refer to a person who believes in a possibly doomed or dangerous idea because of perceived potential high rewards.) That’s what these people are doing — drinking the Kool-Aid, and it turns them into Trump zombies.

We need to go out and really vote this next time. It doesn’t matter if you are Republican or Democrat; we need to vote for our Constitution to continue in order for our democracy to continue.

A cult is made up of many factors, like chanting. Remember, “Lock her up”?

Isolation, fear, democracy is taking your freedom away, the government is going to take your guns away. Finger pointing, it’s the Democrats’ fault!, it’s “fake news’” fault. Love bombing, welcome to the cult where you are loved. If some or all of these sound familiar from Trump and now a majority of Trump supporters, there you have it: “brain-washing 101.”

What is democracy? 1: Government by the people, majority rule. 2: Government in which the highest power is held by the people and is usually used through representatives. 3: A political unit (as a nation) governed by the people. 4: Belief in or practice of the idea that all people are socially equal. If you are willing to lose one or all of these, then vote for Trump or Republicans in 2022 and 2024.

Then you’d rather have a dictatorship, a form of government in which one person or a small group possesses absolute power without effective constitutional limitations. These caudillos, or self-proclaimed leaders, usually led a private army and tried to establish control over a territory before marching upon a weak national government. No more freedom of speech, ironically no more guns, since you might want to take the country by force. In general, no more freedom!

Unless you’ve drunk the Kool-Aid, vote your conscience, even if it’s any Republican except Trump! Vote in favor of our Constitution and democracy. Vote pro-country!

draw attack

Fittingly, Friday the 13th was Jen Psaki’s last day on the job for the Biden administration. According to CNN she held more press briefings than all of President Trump’s press secretaries. Not surprising, since her boss, Joe Biden, is rarely seen on major networks news shows due to his gaffes and lack of recall. Instead of showing Biden speak the news anchors of the major networks do a brief synopsis of his speech and only snippets are shown of Biden; nothing in its entirety since he goes off track and seems incoherent at times. In Joe Biden’s world if you don’t see it, it never happened, another reason he has ignored the letter from Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez to come to the RGV before repealing Title 42.

Judge Cortez suffers from the old saying, “Fool me once, shame on you,” as he has now been fooled twice by Biden ignoring his request to come to the Valley. If Biden comes to the RGV he knows he would be met by protests as he has already been called out by his own party members. Even Beto O’Rourke is backpedaling and asking that Title 42 be left in place. Shocking, coming from the guy who wants to be governor, is against the border wall, wants open borders and is in favor of making Texas a sanctuary state for anyone who has entered this country illegally.

Sadly, Joe Biden has failed us all, from the Afghan withdrawal disaster to the economic crisis we now face in this country. The border crisis here with hundreds of thousands of undocumented aliens being given “carte blanche,” free to do as they please, all on the dime of the American taxpayer.

On the world stage he has failed, in the Ukraine thousands are dying because Biden chose sanctions over drawing a line in the sand like JFK did in October of 1962. He failed to stand up to Vladimir Putin like JFK stood up to Nikita Khrushchev; instead of a naval blockade he deferred to sanctions. In 1962 the Russians blinked and retreated from Cuba; a similar show of force might have saved Ukraine and its people, but Putin saw weakness and took advantage of Biden’s weakness as a world leader.

The “Orange Man” with the mean tweets scolded European allies and Germany for forging an energy alliance with Russia, an alliance they and the rest of the world now regret.
