Texas Southmost College held its 5th annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Thursday at Gorgas Hall to honor the men and women who served to protect the United States of America.

TSC faculty, staff, students and community members who served in the military attended the ceremony to be recognized for their service to the country.

“TSC has made it a tradition to host a Veterans Day ceremony to thank and honor those who have selflessly served their country,” TSC Student Life Director Armando Ponce said.

Arlene Laboy, a U.S. Army veteran, served from Aug. 2005 to Oct. 2012 as a sergeant. Laboy was the first female in her family to enlist in the military and currently serves as the president for Veteran Females United in the Rio GrandeValley.

“It’s an amazing thing to do something bigger than yourself, and I quite didn’t understand that until I joined (the Army),” Laboy said.
