WESLACO — Law enforcement authorities from throughout the Rio Grande Valley will have the opportunity to participate in a free training session that will provide tips on how to discourage and police underage drinking parties.
Scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday at the Weslaco Business, Visitor & Event Center, located at 275 S. Kansas Ave., the Controlled Party Dispersal Training offers participants four hours of credit in Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education.
CPD is specifically designed to assist law enforcement agencies to better manage underage drinking parties, according to a Texans Standing Tall press release. The organization leads a multi-agency effort which includes the Behavioral Health Solutions of South Texas UNIDAD Coalition and the Texas Department of Transportation.
Texans Standing Tall is a statewide coalition that aims to discourage alcohol, tobacco and illegal drug use among youth. Originally funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and administered by the American Medical Association, TST was founded in 1997 and today remains only one of six active organizations to have originated from the foundation’s financial assistance.
