The votes were tallied, and a name for the new baby giraffe at Gladys Porter Zoo was selected.
Out of the six selected names voters had to choose from, Loki had the highest votes with 240, zoo officials reported.
The calf’s name was revealed Thursday as Loki celebrated its first birthday.
Zoo staff selected six names, and the public was invited to choose one name out of the six that would be given to the baby giraffe that was born last February.
The suggested names were Astro, Comet, Orbit, Jett, Apollo and Loki.
The votes are as follows:
>> Astro – 211
>> Comet – 84
>> Orbit – 59
>> Jett – 66
>> Apollo – 57
>> Loki – 240
The new calf, a male, was born to Rocket last February.
The voting for the new calf began Feb. 15 on the GPZ website and lasted one week.
