Alton man indicted in drive-by murder of Mission man

David Robles

The 18-year-old Alton man accused of participating in a drive-by shooting that killed a 34-year-old Mission man has been indicted, court records show.

David Robles was indicted last Tuesday for the murder of Jessie Rey Saenz, according to court documents.

In early May, authorities responded to the 1800 block of Chicago Street in rural Alton in reference to a possible drive-by shooting, according to a news release from police.

When officers arrived, they found Saenz lying on the side of the road with gunshot wounds. First responders administered CPR on Saenz, but he was declared dead by emergency medical personnel, according to the report.

Witnesses told authorities they saw passengers inside a white truck exchange gunfire with people inside the residence. One witness said that Robles’ half-brother, 34-year-old Reynaldo Robles, had bullet holes in his white Chevrolet Silverado the day after Saenz’s death, the report said.

According to the release, both brothers and two juveniles were allegedly in the vehicle at the time of the shooting.

The following Monday, authorities met with Robles who provided a voluntary statement admitting his involvement in the murder and was arrested after the interview, the report said.

Robles remained jailed Monday on a $1 million bond. He is set to appear before Judge Rose Guerra Reyna for arraignment Aug. 10.
