EDINBURG — An Alton man accused of participating in a drive-by shooting was charged with murder Wednesday afternoon at the Hidalgo County Sherriff’s Office.

David Robles, 18, was charged with murder by Justice of the Peace Jaime Muñoz for the death of a 34-year-old Mission man on Thursday.

According to a news release, Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the 1800 block of Chicago Street in rural Alton in reference to a possible drive-by shooting.

When officers arrived, they saw a man, later identified as Jessie Rey Saenz, lying on the side of the road with gunshot wounds. First responders administered CPR, but Saenz was declared dead by emergency medical personnel, the report said.

Authorities spoke to witnesses who said they saw passengers aboard a white truck and people inside the residence exchange gunfire. One witness also told police that Robles’ half-brother, 34-year-old Reynaldo Robles, had bullet holes in his white Chevrolet Silverado the day after the murder.

Both brothers and two male juveniles were allegedly in the vehicle at the time of the murder, the release said.

On Monday, investigators met with Robles, who they said provided a voluntary statement admitting his involvement in the murder, and he was subsequently arrested. The report also indicates the two juveniles involved in the shooting may have fled to Mexico.

Robles remained jailed Wednesday on a $1 million bond, and the investigation remains active.
