San Benito athletic director and head football coach Dan Gomez has been placed on administrative leave, sources confirmed to RGVSports.com on Tuesday.

A member of San Benito CISD’s public relations department requested an email be sent requesting a statement from the school. An email was sent to the public relations department Tuesday but no response was received prior to the end of the day.

Calls to Gomez were made Tuesday afternoon as well, but no answer was received.

Gomez led the Greyhounds to the third round of the playoffs in 2022, marking the third time in his career he’s done so and the first time since 2018.

San Benito’s season ended with a 44-7 loss to Austin Westlake that round, finishing the year with an 11-2 overall mark.

Gomez has spent the past nine seasons as the head coach at San Benito, taking over in 2014 following the resignation of then-head coach Spencer Gantt. He has amassed a 75-29 overall record during that span, leading the Greyhounds to the postseason each year.
