Child shooter and rights for good students

A 6-year-old shot his teacher in a Virginia classroom. The teacher is still in the hospital, recovering from gunshot wounds. Thanks to her heroic leadership, the rest of her students are safe, or at least as safe as you can be after witnessing a shooting in your own class. The steady drip, drip, drip of information about this incident has turned it from an aberration into a scandal.

Letters: Delivery inspires

Roses are red.

Letters: Governor defended

I am writing in response to a recent editorial, “No goodwill: Christian goodness absent from Abbott’s busing stunt (Jan. 3).

Letters: Which side of the fence

It is interesting that Democrats visit the Respite Center, offering help to asylum seekers, and Republicans visit a wall that having been built in the last two years is falling down, between two countries that have enjoyed a business border for decades.

Information offered regarding approaching comet

I read the article on the green comet on Jan. 23 and thought some additional information might help readers understand and find the comet that has been in the news lately. My reference is Sky and Telescope magazine. The magazine article has a good chart to show where the comet can be seen in the northern sky during the best observing dates.

Letters: Pleasant president

As I was waiting for my American veteran husband’s release from the hospital recently, I couldn’t recognize the fake, sweet-smiling Joe Biden on Fox News, informing the country of his plans to continue the previous immigration policies that worked effectively under President Trump, and which he destroyed among many others with his 17 executive orders his first day in office.

Letters: Control population

Happy New Year to my fellow Monitor readers.

We must stop taking in the world’s discards

Although human nature does not change, nations’ populations and subsequent needs do. We are now maybe the world’s third-most-populous nation behind China and India; no longer do we need to worry about populating our shores. If we want our ambiance to remain as pristine as possible, we should now try to control population to what is considered manageable or “sustainable” in growth. The tired old saw about being welcoming to all migration as the function of the USA is for the discard pile of clichés.

Letters: Commentary spurs opinion

On Jan. 1, our newly elected U.S. Rep. Monica De La Cruz tells us about herself and how she’s ready to go to work for the American people. Her family achieved the American Dream and she believes that everyone deserves that opportunity, too. Well, good for us!

Baha’i looks at current events and concerns

Many people make a special effort at this time of year to share love and joy with our family and friends.
