Letters: Governor defended

I am writing in response to a recent editorial, “No goodwill: Christian goodness absent from Abbott’s busing stunt (Jan. 3).

First, the editorial is quick to vilify and disparage Gov. Greg Abbott for sending a small group of immigrants to Washington, D.C., in an effort to draw attention to what can only be described as an illegal immigrant invasion along the Texas-Mexico border. So, it is all Abbott’s fault for the circumstances those who knowingly, and willingly chose to enter the country find themselves in. The editorial would have you believe that Gov. Abbott invited or asked those immigrants who ended up in D.C to surge the border with the expectation of being treated like VIPs and/or conquering heroes once on U.S. soil.

A question arises: Where is it written that American taxpayers have an obligation, moral or otherwise, to take in and pay for food, shelter, etc., for anybody in the world who claims they are fleeing from extreme poverty, violence, etc., in their home country? Such a claim can literally be made by a large percentage of the world’s population.

Those who attack and vilify Gov. Abbott for his efforts to secure the border should show more consideration for citizens whose lives are being disrupted by massive and unrestrained immigration instead of calling for more generosity and consideration for those who have entered the country.

Put up,

Abbott

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore.” Just because it is on the Statue of Liberty does not mean that is not a liberal, commie position. But Greg Abbott lies when he says the border is being invaded and must be stopped. Give Abbott an AR-15, roll him up to the border and have him shoot and kill everyone coming across. That is what happens when a country is being invaded. That is happening in Ukraine. Put up or shut up.

From 2017-2019, The House, Senate and president were all Republican. Why was nothing done about integration? Republicans would not solve the problem because they wanted the illegals to be their campaign issue. Greg Abbott was waiting for Mexico to pay for Trump’s wall. I guess he is still waiting. Just once, could Abbott tell the truth?

Hatred and lies are the only issues the Republicans can promote. And they do it well. Xenophobia causes many people to vote for conservatives. This is the actual truth: The perception that immigrants are linked to crime in the United States is something that has existed for decades or longer. However, UT Dallas criminologist Alex Piquero says that view is not supported by data.

New research shows first-generation immigrants, or individuals born outside the U.S., are less likely to commit serious crimes and less likely to be chronic offenders. El Paso is the third safest city in the USA with the highest influx of immigrants. Republicans have a definite philosophy on the facts. “Always lie because you can cover up your lie with another lie. But when you tell the truth, you are stuck with it. “
