Letters: Which side of the fence

It is interesting that Democrats visit the Respite Center, offering help to asylum seekers, and Republicans visit a wall that having been built in the last two years is falling down, between two countries that have enjoyed a business border for decades.

Tells me which side of the “fence” I am on.

The Republicans and Democrats knew Donald Trump had top-secret documents in his possession. But, the Republicans refused to accept it as true. Some Republicans did not even take it seriously. Many Republicans even denied that Trump had any such top-secret documents.

Of course, any time documents are mishandled, especially top-secret documents, it needs to be taken seriously. Something that both Democrats and now Republicans believe, although Republicans have only begun to believe it since Jan. 9.

How interesting.

Whelan

blasted

Paul Whelan received a bad-conduct discharge from the U.S. Marines for larceny, making false statements, dereliction of duty on three counts and a number of other crimes committed that are too many to mention. He was court-martialed in January 2008 and expelled from the Marines as a result of his criminal actions.

Whelan was convicted and sentenced to 16 years in a Russian prison for espionage by a court in Moscow. Does the name Benedict Arnold come to anyone’s mind in this instance? One can only wonder.

Speaking of which, I keep wondering why members of the conservative media (i.e., Fox News, Newsmax) are displaying long faces and feeling morose over the fact that Whelan won’t be released into U.S. custody for the foreseeable future.

Do the conservative media even bother to acknowledge that Whelan tried to betray the trust of our country while serving in the Marines? teen as

Are these the same conservative media that are ready to welcome him home with open arms, forgetting all the bad behavior he displayed during his time as a Marine?

Yes, the U.S. Armed Forces make up the most powerful military in the world, but I know for a fact that they aren’t perfect. Our nation’s military is made up of very well-disciplined people but there are a few bad apples in the bunch, believe it or not.

It is the highest-ranking officers (i.e., generals, admirals) who are faced with the task of discarding those “bad apples” by handing out a dishonorable discharge to anyone who performs any illegal activities in the service.

Do the conservative media even bother to thank those commanding officers for performing the same task that determines right from wrong, or do they simply air their complaints by berating those officers in that regard?

All in all, I say that for his unjust actions as an ex-Marine, Paul Whelan should be left to serve his entire sentence overseas, whether the conservative media like it or not. In this great nation of ours, each person is entitled to one’s opinion, just like the media themselves are entitled to a free press.

Remember, true conservatives (including I) will never salute any military member who tries to betray our country instead of serving it.
