HARLINGEN — Border Patrol agents prevented three drug smuggling attempts on Tuesday, according to a press release by U.S Customs and Border Protection.
Harlingen agents seized nearly 600 pounds of marijuana within a 10-hour span near San Pedro, along the Military Highway.
Agents located an abandoned bundle of marijuana weighing more than 50 pounds and valued at over $40,000.
The area was searched for additional bundles but no additional ones were found.
According to the press release National Guard personnel also assisted the U.S. Border Patrol in the Fort Brown Station area of responsibility in Brownsville.
Agents observed and reported multiple drug smugglers approaching the nearby border infrastructure.
Moments later, agents, along with a Border Patrol K-9, responded to the area and located three smugglers and 72 pounds of marijuana. The drugs are valued at over $57,000.
