Teen recovering after being gunned down

SAN BENITO — Authorities say 17-year-old Alejandro Dominguez is recovering from the gun shot he sustained to his stomach, but the gunman is still on the lose.

Investigators say they suspect Jaciel Cantu, about 18 years old, shot Dominguez Monday in front of his home at 25786 Relin Circle in the Arroyo Colorado Estates neighborhood outside San Benito.

Cantu is a person of interest in the shooting.

According to police, witnesses of the shooting said the gunman picked up Dominguez and placed him in his car and sped off.

Police said they received a call of a shooting at 4:27 p.m. and when police arrived the scene was clear of anyone wounded from a gun shot.

Dominguez was dropped off at Valley Baptist Medical Center and went into surgery to remove the bullet, Sheriff Omar Lucio said during a press conference.

He said authorities found a black Ford Fusion in a small ditch off Williams Road and Castillo Road.

Authorities are still investigating the incident and looking for Cantu.

Police are seeking assistance from the community to help locate him.

Lucio said if Cantu went to somebody’s house to shoot someone, he is capable of doing anything.
