Palm Valley police chief reinstated

PALM VALLEY — Police Chief Alvaro Garcia is back at work and he couldn’t be happier about it.

After 18 days on administrative leave, the veteran chief was officially scheduled to report to work at 7 a.m. this morning.

“I am very happy I am going to be able to come back to work,” Garcia said last night following the city’s decision to reinstate him.

He even admitted, he was going to eat dinner and get back to work as early as last night.

“I am happy to be back for my officers and to lead them forward,” Garcia said. “We have work to do and I want to hit the ground running and get back to normal. I got tired of doing laundry the past couple of weeks.”

However, until about 8 p.m. last night, Garcia and his supporters weren’t sure what would happen. It took the City Council two hours behind closed doors and two separate votes to decide to reinstate Garcia.
