HARLINGEN — Forecasters have issued a gale warning for coastal waters as high winds will persist throughout tonight and the weekend.

The National Weather Service previously issued small craft advisories for both the bay and the gulf.

Southerly winds of 15 to 20 knots today will continue through tonight and into Saturday.

Wind speeds will climb Saturday morning to 25 to 30 knots from the south, then shift to the northwest and then north at 25 to 30 knots Saturday afternoon.

Seas in the gulf will rise from five to eight feet early Saturday to eight to 12 feet later in the afternoon.

Winds will continue to be strong out of the north Sunday at 20 to 25 knots and will only begin to swing to the northeast and east on Monday when they will drop to five to 10 knots.
