Free information session to help cold-stunned sea turtles

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — The colder weather is bringing complications for the sea turtle population in the Laguna Madre.

When weather temperatures drop quickly, sea turtles in the bay are at risk of being cold-stunned that leaves the turtles motionless and can lead to death.

With cold-stunned sea turtles being called in, Sea Turtle Inc is offering free information sessions Jan. 3rd and Jan. 7th for boaters to learn the do’s and don’ts when encountering these animals.

According to Sea Turtle Inc assistant curator Kat Lillie, boaters and boat captains that come upon motionless turtles are required to call Sea Turtle Inc at (956) 761-4511 for further instruction.
