Valley men jailed in separate drug busts

HARLINGEN — Two traffic stops led to three arrests and the seizure of a total of 270 pounds of marijuana.

Martin Araguz, 23, of Los Fresnos, was in the Willacy County Jail after state troopers seized 215 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on Interstate 69 near Conley Road last Saturday, said Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Maria Montalvo.

Montalvo said troppers found 24 bundles of marijuana worth more than $1 million inside a false compartment in the bed of the white 2003 Dodge pickup truck at about 2:40 p.m.

In Starr County, troppers arrested Rey Rolando Lopez, 34, of Rio Grande City, and Ricardo Espinza-Silva, 39, of Mexico, after a traffic stop turned up 55 pounds on Alvarez Road north of U.S. 83.

Montalvo stated five bundles of marijuana worth more than $333,000 was found in the cargo area of the 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe at about 11:13 a.m.

The men were taken to the Starr County Jail.
