Independence Day events set for Laguna Vista

LAGUNA VISTA — This little town by the bay is seeking vendors for its upcoming Independence Day Parade and Picnic and run/walk.

City Manager Rolando Vela said The “Respecta Tu Playa” organization is the first one to sponsor an aid station for the Independence Day Fun Run and Walk.

However, they require more aid station sponsors to provide water during the run/walk event in the morning. It can be an individual, family, business, or an organization.

A few vendors selling food and drinks have already confirmed, Vela said.

Vela encourages a variety of foods, crafts and homemade goods.

Vendors, who are preparing food to sell at the event will need to secure a health permit from the county health department. The cost of this one-time permit is $25. Nonprofit organizations are not charged this fee.

“The town does not provide booths. In the event you will need one, the town can make arrangements to secure one for you. You, however, will need to pay for the rental cost of the booth,” Vela said. “If you don’t need a booth and would like to sell, the town will allow you to do so provided that you bring your own tables, extension cords, etc.”

The Independence Day Parade will start at 5:30 p.m. at the Fire Station located on FM 510.

Parade participants are asked to decorate their golf carts, vehicles, boat/trailers, bikes, etc. with red, white and blue. Dressing up also in these patriotic colors is also encouraged. Participants are asked to be at the Fire Station no later than 5 p.m.

Following the parade, Hector Guzman and the Allnighters will be performing at Roloff Park from 6 to 10 p.m.

“We will be having children’s activities and food. Blankets and lawn chairs are welcome,” Vela said.

This year, Vela said the town has added a family-filled Independence Day Run/Walk to this celebration starting at 7 a.m. that day at Roloff Park. Runners and walkers are asked to where patriotic colors.

This event is free and open to the public.
