Honoring those who served

Maybe no one that reads this forum has ever heard of one time Harlingen resident, Staff Sergeant Juan “Oscar” Sanchez.

If I may, l’d like for all of us that read this forum to remember Oscar this Memorial Day.

Growing up Oscar lived with his family off of Teege Road and where the expressway now runs.

Oscar and my oldest brother, J.M. Rodriguez were best friends in school and after they both enlisted in the Marine Corps.

My brother left the Corps after his four year tour of duty. Oscar was working on his third hash mark when he was killed in action near Cam Lo, Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam, on Sept. 17, 1968.

May you rest in peace Oscar. God bless your family and the son you never met.

“And when to heaven he will get, Saint Peter will he tell, ‘One more Marine reporting Sir, I’ve served my time in hell’.”
