Body of missing swimmer found on Boca Chica Beach

The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for a missing swimmer off South Padre Island.

The U.S. Coast Guard says the body of a missing swimmer has been recovered on Boca Chica Beach.

Mohammed Alsubaie, 22, of Saudi Arabia, disappeared Saturday afternoon near the Bridgepoint Condominiums onr the 300 block of Padre Island Blvd.

Alsubaie’s body was recovered by Island police.

Earlier today the Coast Guard said it had suspended the search for the young man.

“We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Alsubaie,” said Chief Warrant Officer Barerra, the search and rescue mission coordinator at Sector Corpus Christi for this case. “Despite an exhaustive search with our helicopter and rescue boat crews, we were unable to locate him after this comprehensive and dedicated effort.”

The Coast Guard says it spent 35 hours searching for Alsubaie with helicopter crews and rescue boats from Corpus Christi and the Island and covered 232 square miles including U.S. and Mexican waters.
