Fire destroys 3 Willacy County homes

SEBASTIAN — Fire engulfed three houses as firefighters worked to stop the blaze from spreading in a rural area near Sebastian.

Firefighters were trying to stop the fire from spreading onto seven other houses, Frank Torres, executive director of Willacy County’s emergency medical services, said at about 5:30 p.m.

Fire broke out at about 4:30 p.m. in the rural area between FM 2629 and FM 2845, Torres said. He said all fire departments in Willacy County were fighting the blaze.

“There are multiple structures that have caught fire,” Torres said. “Others are being threatened.”

Torres said a cause had not been determined.

“Our priority right now is life and property,” he said.
