HARLINGEN — Three people have been arrested in connection with two different thefts around town.
A mother and son were arrested after police said they broke into a woman’s house.
Officer were called on July 4 to the 200 block of North 26th Street where the victim stated two neighbors informed her of two people who were inside her home without permission.
When she arrived home, she found the door had been forced open and several items were missing.
Police said the witness was able to provide an accurate description of the suspects along with a description of their vehicle.
Officers later located the vehicle near the 1500 block of Basin and made contact with the homeowners.
Two Harlingen residents, identified as Estela Silva, 60, and Abraham Silva, 26 were positively identified as the two people who broke into the woman’s home.
Both were arrested and charged with a second-degree felony for burglary of habitation, with bond set at $25,000.
In a separate incident, a Harlingen man was arrested after police say he crawled behind the counter at a gas station and took money.
Officers were called to the Stripes convenience store at the 600 block of West Harrison Avenue where an employee told officers a man crawled behind the counter and took $80 from the money dispenser while the employee was in another area of the store.
The incident was recorded on surveillance video.
During the investigation, the detective was able to identify the suspect as Felipe Magallanes Jr., 39, who according to police records had previous convictions for theft enhancing his charge to a felony.
He was later located and arrested on Tuesday.
Magallanes was arraigned on a state jail felony for theft, with bond set at $15,000.
