64-year-old woman killed in vehicle accident identified

HARLINGEN — A 64-year-old Harlingen woman killed in a car crash with a sheriff’s deputy patrol car Saturday has been identified as Rhonda Taylor Dillon.

Police said her Jeep SUV crashed into the back of a Cameron County Sheriff’s deputy patrol car early Saturday morning while the deputy was stopped at a traffic light at North Business 77 and Loop 499.

The deputy, Miguel Barajas, was in his patrol car facing north at the red light, police said.

“What happened was a white SUV rear-ended the back end, pushing him into the intersection,” Harlingen police Officer Larry Moore said.

“The deputy was transported to the hospital with minor injuries to the head and face.”

Dillon was taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
