LAGUNA VISTA — While the number of citations issued decreased, the calls for police services went up.
The calls ranged in complaint from disturbances to ordinance violations.
When questions arose about crime statistics in town, Police Chief Tony David was quick to provide his citizens a rundown of how things went in 2015.
It was all in the name of keeping the citizens of Laguna Vista informed and safe while providing what he calls the best service.
Aside from David, there are only seven officers in the department.
Despite Laguna Vista being a fairly small community, it still sees some crime, but little compared to bigger communities.
While only one violent crime was reported — a sexual assault — for the year, the department saw a 91 percent reduction in burglaries and property crime in 2015 compared to 2014.
In 2015, three burglaries and property crimes were reported, while 2014 saw about 34 reported.
Traffic citations declined in the year 2015 with 1,377 citations issued.
“In the year 2014, there were 1,851 citations issued by LVPD. This is a decrease of 26 percent,” David said. “This can be attributed to officers’ increased issuance of warnings to violators.”
