Persistent gusts leave thousands without electricity

McALLEN – Persistent 40 mile-per-hour winds left nearly 9,000 residents without electricity Saturday afternoon.

Gusts blowing through the Rio Grande Valley since early Friday morning resulted in nearly 2,000 AEP customers without power in Cameron County and another 5,400 outages were reported in Hidalgo County by the afternoon.

Meanwhile, Willacy County had about 400 customers without power, according to the AEP Texas website.

AEP customers are asked to report outages to 1-800-672-2231.
