San Benito CISD suspends all summer activities over virus concern

The San Benito Consolidated Independent School District has suspended all extracurricular activities over concern about the coronavirus.

In a letter posted on Facebook Wednesday evening, superintendent Nate Carman said acting in the best interest of the safety, health and well-being of our students and staff, the decision has been made to suspend the district’s Summer 2020 Strength and Conditioning Program as well as all Belles (drill team), cheer and band – effective Wednesday and until further notice.

“We commend our Belles, cheer, Band and Athletic Department staff and athletic trainers for always adhering to and implementing the safety guidelines tha the University Interscholastic League (UIL) sets for for all sports and extracurricular activities,” the superintendent said in his letter.

He urged parents and students to adhere to social distancing guidelines, wear masks and other precautionary measures to stay safe.

A number of districts across the Valley have suspended their strength and conditioning program, including Brownsville and Los Fresnos.
