Police search for suspect in string of car burglaries

HARLINGEN — Police have recently discovered a string of car break-ins and are seeking the public’s help in indentifying a suspect.

On Friday, police officers responded to a burglary of a vehicle on Poinciana Street.

Upon further investigation, they discovered other vehicles in the area also had been burglarized.

In all, 19 vehicles were entered by a man they say was wearing a hooded shirt.

Video surveillance shows the man randomly checking door handles of parked vehicles. Every vehicle that was entered was left unlocked.

The Harlingen Police Department would like to offer the following tips on how to possibly prevent their vehicles from burglary:

Secure and lock all doors and windows

Park in well lighted areas

Do not leave valuables inside your vehicle, or

Hide items left inside vehicles

Activate alarm

Report any suspicious activity.
