Letters: Praying for blinding light

There was a time when Saul of Tarsus was persecuting Christians for many years until one night when he was traveling on the road to Damascus to round up more followers of Jesus, Saul was blinded by a light that suddenly came down from heaven.

He fell to the ground and heard a voice asking, “Saul, why are you persecuting me?”

Then Saul repented of his sins and decided to convert himself to Christianity. Immediately, he was renamed as the apostle Paul who would serve the Lord for the rest of his life.

The same can be said for Trump-endorsed Republican incumbents and candidates who are running for office during this year’s midterm elections in the U.S.

We are seeing many of those same pro-Trump officeholders (Ron DeSantis, Elise Stefanik, Marjorie Taylor-Greene, etc.) who are following his lead by persecuting other politicians within their own party (Liz Cheney, Adam Kinsinger, etc.) if their demands are not met on many items on the agenda.

Yes, these are the same Trump-endorsed politicians who congregate at their own sham gatherings where they draw up declarations such as their refusal to accept Joe Biden’s election victory, the corrupt idea of ending the 17th Amendment (direct election of U.S. senators), the threat of repealing the 1965 Voting Rights Act, busing away law-abiding immigrants to other places and the flirtatious idea of seceding from the U.S.

I don’t know how long their persecution of other politicians, people and businesses will continue, but I pray that Donald Trump and all of his chosen ones will see that big blinding light and experience their “road to Damascus” by serving the needs of the people with no self-interest in mind.

May they put an end to all the lies, the hate and the tyranny that is spreading like wildfire throughout our country once and for all.

Remember, God is watching and may He continue to bless the United States as one great undivided nation for which it knows no tyranny.

Loving America:

Different takes

Hold on, stop the presses; is the sun shining? I, an independent voter, agreeing with a Republican sheep like Imelda Coronado? Yes, Imelda in her Aug. 10 letter found a couple of the reasons I can’t be a Democrat; condoning the lack of financial responsibility to repay a legitimate loan is one. But alas, after supporting school safety, another common ground, she equates a fetus with a living, breathing, thinking child. Poof —the hopes for building understanding on small pieces of common ground becomes, at the very best, shaky.

From then on in her 10 qualifications needed to love America she reverts back to criticizing “fake blood-stained clothing” worn during demonstrations, conveniently forgetting the blood and body parts thrown at pro-choice doctors, nurses and buildings. She claims to support school safety yet defends her version of the 2nd Amendment allowing people who “love America” to buy military-style rifles, then journey miles to take out schoolchildren. She goes on to proclaim that people who love America believe in a one-tiered system of justice, but conveniently forgets the number of her insurrection-advocating ex-president’s followers who are still walking free. She muses that America lovers don’t condone the riots in 2020 nor those who got away with it through political impunity. But she says nothing about Jan 6, 2021, when rabid conservatives tried to overthrow our government, yet the instigator Trump is still free.

In her final description of those of us who really do love America, she criticizes other forms of government but fails to recognize that without loose forms of communism and socialism, implemented in 1933 by FDR, America possibly would not have survived. Certainly, many of the jobless, elderly and infirm would not.

Please, Mrs. Coronado, leave us real Americans alone. Instead, go criticize the American pharmaceutical, insurance, oil, agricultural and financial cartels which, while we suffer, are reaping huge profits from inflation.

Questions

enumerated

Every week Jesus Rodriguez, Ned Sheats and Bill Williams write about Donald Trump and Republicans and how bad we are, but like Imelda Coronado graciously wrote Aug. 10 in seven different points, I’d like to add a few more.

1. Why is Fox News the No. 1-watched news on TV, when all it does is lie?

2. Why is crime at a 40-year high and robbery, rape and murder up in many Democrat run big cities?

3. Where’s your outcry for Hunter Biden to be arrested after lying on a gun application, showing videos of himself doing drugs, having sex with prostitutes and lying on his taxes? Is he above the law because his last name is Biden?

4. Why was Hillary Clinton’s house not raided to get back the 33,000 emails she destroyed and FBI Director James Comey said might be illegal?

5. Why weren’t people arrested protesting in front of Supreme Court judges’ homes when it’s against the law. Democrats talk about how they think the law should work but not what’s written.

U.S. love

redefined

Mrs. Coronado seems to believe that Democratic people supported or condone the riots of the Black Lives Matter movement, that Democrats supported the burning of federal buildings, churches and businesses. Well, Mrs. Coronado, we didn’t.

But, Mrs. Coronado, isn’t the U.S. Capitol the most sacred building to our democracy? Yet I haven’t seen you as a loving American condone or criticize the attack on the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters. Why is that, Mrs. Coronado?

As for me, anyone who burns or attacks any federal building, regardless if they are Democrat or Republican, should get prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

As for abortion, a lot of loving Americans are pro-choice. I for one believe that if a woman’s life is in danger she should have the choice to end it or see it full term, if that’s what she decides. With regard to rape, I also believe that a women has the right to terminate the pregnancy, since she did not consent to it. Also in the case of a child being molested and becoming pregnant by that abuse. Why would anyone want to force a child to carry that for nine months? That, Mrs., Coronado, is un-American.

Candidate’s faith

target of attack

Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz of Texas is not what the country needs. She votes against the interests of many Texas residents. She is also a rubber stamp for the Catholic Church, which does not support a free and independent democracy.

Rome has always sought the union of church and state. The separation of these two was one of the most fundamental issues that founded America. The Bill of Rights protects a lot of other freedoms. For example, you can believe in any religion you want. The government cannot force you to believe in something.

The first four of the Catholic Ten Commandments are the exact opposite of the First Amendment. Ms. Cruz’s first loyalty is to the local priest and not the U.S. Constitution. She can’t effectively serve both government and religion. Jesus said, in Luke 20:25, “Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar’s, and unto God the things which be God’s.” Ms. Cruz is forced to believe they are the same.

I will wait to see how big a lie she can tell and see if she is a bigger liar than Donald Trump.
