A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper was sent to the hospital after an intoxicated Fronton woman crashed into their vehicle after losing control of her car, according to a news release.

Veronica Vela, 40, was charged with intoxication assault after crashing her 2017 Chevrolet Malibu into a trooper’s DPS unit.

At about 5:40 a.m. on Sunday, Vela was traveling south on FM 650 at an unsafe speed when she lost control and drove onto the wrong song of the road.

It was at that time a DPS trooper was traveling north and was struck by the Malibu.

According to the release, Vela suffered a laceration on her right eye while her passenger, who wasn’t wearing their seat belt, struck the windshield with his face.

“The DPS trooper sustained minor injuries and was released from the hospital,” the release said.

DPS continues to investigate the crash.
