MERCEDES — Valley Initiative for Development and Advancement announced that it has received an anonymous donation of $200,000, a substantial contribution that will allow VIDA to further its impact and continue its work in enhancing career pathways for low-income students.

The anonymous donor’s generosity reflects a deep commitment to making investments in today’s students. The $200,000 donation will be instrumental in supporting VIDA’s ongoing programs and initiatives, VIDA stated in a news release.

VIDA has a long history of empowering underserved residents in the Rio Grande Valley with the tools, education and training needed to become self-sufficient while fueling the growth of existing employers.

The donation will further bolster the organization’s ability to serve the community and fulfill its mission. The funds will be allocated to complete VIDA’s approach model by providing the necessary support services, career guidance, intensive case management and financial assistance, VIDA stated in the release.

“We are incredibly grateful for this transformational and generous gift being awarded to VIDA. This support will be instrumental in expanding wraparound support services to college students pursuing degrees or credentials in high-demand occupations,” Felida Villarreal, VIDA president and CEO, said in the release. “With this financial award, VIDA will continue to address the RGV’s issue of intergenerational poverty, promoting economic mobility through career pathways and intensive case management, especially at a time when college persistence and completion must be prioritized.”

The donation provides essential financial support but also serves as a powerful example of the profound impact that individuals and organizations can have when they come together to address critical challenges in our community.

VIDA extends its heartfelt thanks to the anonymous donor for their generosity and belief in the organization’s mission, Villarreal said.
