One woman is dead after a fatal crash in Brownsville early Wednesday morning, the Brownsville Police Department said on Facebook.

At about 1:30 a.m., Brownsville police officers and crime scene investigators responded to the 2900 block of W. Alton Gloor Blvd. in reference to a major single-vehicle accident.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a gray 2012 GMC Terrain was traveling westbound on W. Alton Gloor and, for reasons still under investigation, the driver failed to maintain control of the vehicle.

“The vehicle proceeded to strike an embankment, causing it to rollover and hit an electrical pole and fence,” the Facebook post said.

Stacy Gisel Zavala, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The post states it is still unknown whether speed or alcohol played a factor in this accident. Both autopsy and toxicology results are pending.

The crash remains under active investigation.
