The Weslaco Police Department identified the two people who died following a major two-vehicle crash that occurred Friday.

Martin Anthony Arroyo, 36, died at the scene of the crash while the passenger, 30-year-old Lisa Jo Rawlings, died later at a local hospital.

According to the news release, Weslaco police received a call regarding a two-vehicle crash near the 600 block of the expressway.

The investigation revealed that a vehicle was stalled on the outermost lane with its emergency lights on when a second vehicle began to brake behind it followed by a third car, a white Ford Focus, which “swerved left into the middle lane to avoid impact.”

“…unfortunately, they were struck by a maroon Dodge Ram pickup already traveling westbound in the center lane,” the release stated.

Arroyo, the driver of the Focus, died at the scene and Rawlings, the front right passenger, was airlifted to a local hospital where she also died.

Weslaco police continue to investigate the crash.

Weslaco police would also like to remind the public to use caution when operating a motor vehicle as well as removing the vehicle from the traveling lanes as quickly as possible in cases where the vehicle breaks down or stalls.

“If you notice a stalled vehicle on the roadway, please call the Weslaco Police Department at 956-968-8591 to report it,” the release said.
