All three propositions in the $41.9 million Roma ISD bond passed Saturday.

Election tallies Saturday night showed propositions approved by healthy margins, particularly Proposition 1, which passed by a margin of 305 votes. Proposition 2 passed by 242 votes while Proposition 3 passed by 251.

Voters cast no more than 1,095 ballots for any single proposition.

In a statement, Roma ISD Superintendent Carlos M. Gonzalez Jr. thanked them.

“We are very happy with the outcome of the bond election because these facilities will certainly help our students in all of their extracurricular endeavors,” he wrote. “The district has a 5 year master plan in place to provide these facilities, but also pay for several others upgrades out of our general fund including a new Special Education 18+ Center, an Event Center, a new Band Competition Practice Field, additional modifications for security at all our campuses, and upgrades at our high school complex.

“So the community will see many positive changes for the welfare of our students happening all across the district as soon as fall 2023. We appreciate the community’s trust in our vision for The Gladiator Nation, and we promise we won’t let them down!”

The first proposition — with a price tag of $8,315,000 — will expand Roma High School’s band building and upgrade its softball stadium. It will also fund a new gym for F.J. Scott Elementary, new outdoor learning spaces for all elementary schools and the relocation of the district’s transportation department.

At $8,845,000, the second proposition will fund upgrades to the Roma High football stadium that include bleacher expansion, new restrooms, new concession stands and new dressing rooms.

Meanwhile, the last proposition and the largest chunk of money at $24,760,000 will go toward a new black box theater, new CTE classroom spaces, new meeting spaces and a new gym/meeting space with seating for up to 3,000 people.

In addition to Roma, Donna ISD voters passed a $120 million bond Saturday.
