EDINBURG — Firefighters, friends and family from across the Rio Grande Valley gathered for the funeral of Edinburg Fire Chief Shawn Snider.

The longtime leader died Monday after a yearslong battle with cancer. He was 58 years old.

Following the Funeral Mass, a procession of mourners and emergency vehicles escorted the flag-draped coffin on the back of a firetruck to the cemetery for graveside rites.

Snider, 58, dedicated his entire professional life to firefighting, having joined the Edinburg department in 1991.
