COVID-19 hospitalizations have dropped again in Hidalgo County, with officials reporting fewer patients hospitalized with COVID than they did a week ago.
A total of 40 patients were hospitalized with COVID in Hidalgo County as of Friday, according to a news release issued by the county.
The 40 patients included 38 adults, eight of whom were in intensive care, and two children.
This reflects a drop from the 45 people hospitalized with COVID a week prior and even further drop from the 49 people hospitalized on Feb. 14.
But while hospitalizations are currently going down, the total number of deaths attributed to COVID only continues to grow.
Four more residents died due to complications related to COVID, the county reported this week. One of the deceased individuals was not vaccinated while three were not up to date on their vaccinations.
Two of them were Edinburg men in their 60s, one was a McAllen woman over 70 years old, and one was a woman over 70 years old from an undisclosed location.
A Cameron County resident was also reported to have died due to COVID, county health officials reported on Friday.
The deceased individual, a Harlingen man over 90 years old, was not vaccinated.
In addition to the five COVID-related deaths, there were also 643 new cases reported this week in Hidalgo and Cameron counties.
The 336 new cases reported in just Hidalgo County included 102 confirmed and 234 probable cases.
In Cameron County, there were 307 new cases, including 94 confirmed and 213 probable cases.
