Border Patrol agent struck by migrant near Rio Grande City

A man from El Salvador was arrested Friday after allegedly striking a Border Patrol agent who was patrolling an area near Rio Grande City during a struggle, according to a criminal complaint.

David Alexander Aguirre-Lovo, who was born in 1993, was charged with assaulting a federal officer by physical contact.

According to the complaint, the agent responded to activity called in by the tethered Aerostat radar system at about 3:40 a.m. and headed north on foot to pursue a group of people illegally present in the United States.

During the pursuit, the agent found Aguirre and grabbed him by the back of his shirt and they began to struggle, the complaint said.

Aguirre allegedly struck the agent on the side of the head and both men fell to the ground. The agent then called for help.

That was when Texas Military Department members stepped in to assist the agent and finally subdued and handcuffed Aguirre, the complaint said.

The agent was transported to Starr County Medical Hospital where he was evaluated, treated and diagnosed with a right ear laceration by the emergency room physician, the report said.

Aguirre made his first appearance before Magistrate Judge J. Scott Hacker Monday morning.
