Brownsville murder suspects indicted for fatal stabbing, vehicle theft

The indictment against two Brownsville residents accused of a summer murder reveals that investigators believe they stabbed and killed a man while stealing his vehicle.

A Cameron County grand jury indicted Joshua Isaiah Ramirez, 31, and Veronica Marie Posas, 41, on Oct. 5 on charges of capital murder and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Ramirez and Posas were arraigned on the charges Friday and pleaded not guilty.

They are accused of killing 59-year-old Luis Vera Gonzalez on July 19.

The investigation began after people taking a morning walk found Gonzalez’s body at Illinois Avenue and Milam Road east of Brownsville.

The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office previously said in a news release that investigators obtained collaborating evidence linking Posas and Ramirez to Gonzalez’s death.

Ramirez remains jailed in the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center without bond on the capital murder charge while Posas remains incarcerated on a $3 million bond.

Their next court hearing is scheduled for March.
