Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputy arrested for indecency with a child

The Mission Police Department arrested a Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputy on Monday on a charge of indecency with a child.

In a news release sent Monday, the sheriff’s office said Mission police arrested 35-year-old David Munoz, but did not provide any details about the alleged crime. Munoz started out at the sheriff’s office as a detention officer in 2016 before becoming a deputy in 2017.

“Mission PD obtained an arrest warrant for David Munoz as well as a search warrant for Munoz’s residence,” the release stated.

The sheriff’s office said Munoz has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of his case and an internal affairs investigation.

“The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office is committed to preserving the public’s confidence and trust,” the release stated.

The sheriff’s office said it will fully cooperate with the Mission Police Department in its investigation.

“We will take the necessary and appropriate actions to maintain accountability and transparency to you, the citizens we serve,” the release stated.
