Get ready to feel the heat.

The National Weather Service in Brownsville has issued a special weather statement warning residents to prepare for some hot temperatures Friday afternoon.

The NWS reports the combination of above normal temperatures and higher dew points will produce heat indices—or “feels” like temperatures—between 106 and 110 degrees to area across the Rio Grande Valley.

Some locations in the Valley could approach 112 degrees for an hour or two between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., the NWS reports.

As off noontime Friday, Brownsville’s “feels-like” temperature was 107 degrees, Harlingen’s 105 degrees and McAllen’s at 102 degrees.

The NWS reports residents with outdoor activities planned are urged to drink plenty of water, wear light-weight and light-colored clothing and take frequent breaks from the heat.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. The NWS said this is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
