A 50-year-old Edinburg man accused of stealing around 700 gallons of diesel fuel turned himself in to police on Thursday.

Marcos Escobar was charged with the theft of petroleum after he allegedly stole $3,534 worth of diesel fuel from a Stripes convenience store in Pharr, authorities said in a news release.

He was booked Thursday and released the next day on a $7,500 bond.

The theft is still under investigation.

“We do believe more people were involved as well as vehicles,” Daisy Martinez, public information officer for the city of Pharr, said Friday morning.

Pharr police previously stated they were searching for a 3500 black Dodge Ram made between 2012 and 2014, a 2010 gold Ford F-250 and a gray 2016 or 2017 Chevy Tahoe in relation to the diesel theft investigation.

Anyone with more information on the case can call the Pharr Crime Stoppers at (956) 787-TIPS.
