Edinburg police: Man urinating in state building parking lot leads to shooting

A news release from the Edinburg Police Department shed light into the shooting incident that occurred Wednesday morning which involved a security guard and another man who allegedly urinated in a parking lot.

According to the release, Edinburg police responded to the Texas Health & Human Services building, which is located at 2520 N. Closner Blvd., at about 10:56 a.m. in reference to shots fired.

Police made contact with a contracted armed security officer at the scene and determined that the second person involved left the location prior to the officers’ arrival, though they were eventually found at a second location within city limits.

“It was deemed that the security guard confronted an adult male after he observed him urinating in the northside parking lot and the male decided to leave the location,” the release said.

The investigation revealed that the security guard shot his firearm toward the vehicle’s front left tire as the man left because the vehicle allegedly struck the guard, according to police.

Police say that both men cooperated with authorities. They were released pending the investigation, which remains active.
