After Animal Control rescued 90 dogs from a hoarder, Palm Valley Animal Society is asking for the community’s help in providing care for two of the female dogs and their puppies, who suffer from various illnesses and infections.

Animal control officers respond to the call about a potential hoarding case where they found 90 dogs that were starving and covered in urine and feces.

The overall conditions of the residence and living conditions of the animals caused many of them to be “struggling to survive” due to various infections, according to a petition posted on a website called Cuddly.com.

The animals were taken in by the Palm Valley for medical examinations and treatment. The Palm Valley Animal Society Shelter in Edinburg is currently housing two female dogs and their puppies.

One of the female dogs, Iowa, was taken in along with six 1-week-old puppies that were described to be “dangerously lethargic, dehydrated and scaled from urine burns,” according to the petition.

Iowa suffers from flea infestation, tapeworms and anaplasmosis, which makes nursing more exhausting for the animal.

Toya, the second female dog, arrived extremely malnourished. She was also missing teeth, has a skin infection and has heartworm disease.

According to the petition, treatment for heartworm disease requires various injections in the lumbar muscle that cause extreme pain and soreness in the lower back making it difficult for the dog to stand.

Not only did Toya arrive in severe conditions but she also had 10 puppies. Two died due to their fragile condition.

The puppies are currently being treated for dehydration and malnourishment. Both Iowa and Toya are in stable condition. However, their blood work is still pending further examination.
