Two hotly contested, Rio Grande Valley-centric congressional elections are headed for recounts.

In 2018, U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, a Democrat from McAllen, handily beat his opponent in the November election to retain his District 15 congressional seat to represent what was then a Rio Grande Valley-centric district.

AUSTIN — The Texas primary runoff between Democratic U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar and his progressive challenger, Jessica Cisneros, was too close to call Wednesday, more than a week after the election.

Morgan LaMantia prevailed in the Democratic primary runoff election for State Senate Dist. 27 against opponent Sara Stapleton Barrera as of press time Tuesday night, according to uncanvassed voting results from the Texas Secretary of State and county elections departments.

The Democratic runoff for congressional District 15 turned into a nail-biter late Tuesday night, with the progressive candidate leading the moderate by 30 votes as of deadline.
