8 more virus deaths, 330 cases in Hidalgo Co.

Ten people were reported to have died from COVID-19 in the Rio Grande Valley on Wednesday, while the total number of virus cases grew by 444.

Eight additional deaths linked to COVID-19 were confirmed in Hidalgo County on Wednesday, bringing the death toll to 2,110.

Those who died include seven people in their 70s, and one man in his 30s, according to a news release. 

County officials also reported 330 new cases of the disease, raising the total to 46,449.

There currently are 219 people with the virus being treated in local hospitals, of which 79 are in an intensive care unit. 

Additionally, 293 people were confirmed to have recovered from COVID-19, leaving 2,517 active cases in the county, according to the release. So far, 41,822 people in the county have recovered from the disease. 

Neighboring Cameron County also confirmed two additional virus deaths along with 84 new cases on Wednesday. 

The death toll there is now 1,142, and the total cases is 27,021, according to a news release. 

Of the new cases, 42 are Brownsville residents, and nine are 9 years old or younger. 

Also on Wednesday, Starr County officials confirmed 30 new cases of the virus, bringing the total active cases there to 441. So far, 4,067 people have recovered from COVID-19 in the county, and 191 have died.
