SBCISD transportation dept prepared for return of students

For months, the San Benito CISD Transportation Department has been preparing its bus drivers and monitors for when local students return to face-to-face instruction.

They have participated in an array of hands-on trainings in preparation for transporting student bus riders to and from their schools.  They have also been trained to react in diverse situations or in case of an emergency.

“Our trainings included procedures on cleaning, disinfecting, sanitizing the school bus fleet, loading and unloading students, and properly maintaining social distancing.  Our bus drivers and bus monitors also know to clean and sanitize our buses after each route,” said Director of Transportation Nancy L. Martinez.

Martinez explained that in addition to allow siblings and or relatives living in the same household to sit together, bus drivers take and document each student’s temperature readings before boarding the bus in the mornings and then dismiss the students one at a time in order to maintain social distancing as best as possible.

“Since September, our Transportation staff has also been assisting with loading and delivering meals to our students along with Wi-Fihot spots,” continued Martinez.

“Our bus drivers are well-trained and prepared to transport all their student bus riders in the safest manner to and from school,” stated Transportation and Safety Supervisor Orlando Gonzalez, adding that the students’ well-being is a top concern.

The Transportation staff is indeed a critical component of our mission of providing a premier education for all students.

They are the first and last people to meet students every day, help kindergarten students climb the bus steps, and ensure the climate is just right in the bus – among their many other duties and responsibilities.

For that reason and many others, we celebrate our heroes on wheels!
