Rotary Club of Harlingen aims to raise funds, awareness

HARLINGEN — By throwing pies, funds will be raised for a good cause.

The Rotary Club of Harlingen is preparing to host a fundraiser where Mayor Chris Boswell will be throwing a pie at Rotary President Wayne Lowry.

After reaching a $2,000 goal to help its #EndPolioNow project, the club is now planning to showcase the pie throwing at the History of Mexico and Mankind Mural on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

People willing to buy a pie for $100 will also be able to have one of them thrown. The event will be live streamed on the organization’s Facebook page.

The purpose is to raise awareness of the polio virus and to help eradicate the disease around the world, said Pamela Leverett, Public Relations Chair.

“So far, we’ve generated a lot of interest and monetary commitments, but we are still aiming for more,” Leverett said.

“Any little donation helps and we appreciate all of you who have helped us reach our goal,” she said.
