HARLINGEN — A plan for a caravan parade and a scavenger hunt Oct. 8 in the city’s Downtown District was approved by the board Tuesday pending its acceptance by the city administration.
If the event wins the eventual blessing of city officials and commissioners, it would be held between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.
“ The Chamber of Commerce has asked us to help participate in a caravan supporting our Downtown District with (also) a scavenger hunt,” Downtown District Director Alexis Alaniz told the board. “At this moment I got the suggestion to wait upon the administration’s approval in regards to this event because of the social distancing and CDC guidelines.”
“ We just want to make sure everybody does it correctly,” she added.
Like all city events, whether the parade will be held is dependent on how the COVID-19 situation evolves over the next month.
“ They’re going to ask if it has our approval anyway, so why don’t we just go ahead and approve it, and if they deny it, everything’s still fine,” said board member Bill DeBrooke.
The board approved the parade and scavenger hunt pending receiving a final say from the city commission.
